Student Affairs Staff

Welcome to Jacksonville State University where You Matter!  As the Vice President for Student Affairs, I am happy you joined the Gamecock family and I want to let you know about programs and services provided by the Division of Student Affairs that are aimed at engaging you in the JSU experience.

Students who fully immerse themselves in college are more likely to be successful academically, socially and personally.  The Dean of Students Office oversees more than 100 student organizations and multiple outlets geared towards your involvement including the Student Government Association, Freshman Forum, 1st & 2nd Year Experience Programs and Fraternity & Sorority Life.  In addition, I encourage students to live on campus because connected students, again, are more likely to be successful.  Be sure to check out residence living options through University Housing.

I urge first year students to stay active through University Recreation where students can participate in Fitness Programs such as kickboxing, yoga and zumba and Intramurals including ultimate frisbee, basketball and inner tube water polo!  Also available at the UREC Center is a rock climbing wall, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and indoor track.

When should college students start looking for a job in their chosen career?  The answer is start looking your first semester with assistance from Career Services.  The professional staff at Career Services will guide you through career interest inventories, assist with résumé writing and editing, and connect you with valuable work experiences through internships and Cooperative Education as well as career fairs and employability skills workshops.  Take advantage of this opportunity early and be prepared for your career well before you graduate.

The Division of Student Affairs is prepared to walk with you through the JSU experience and we offer an array of services and programs that may be beneficial to you. If you need reasonable accommodations to fully participate at JSU, Disability Support Services is prepared to assist you. Counseling Services offers free sessions in either one on one or group formats.  The RMC Student Health Center is a primary health care facility that provides outpatient medical services and promotes preventive health measures to all currently enrolled students.

Perhaps you are interested in an international experience.  Consider joining the JSU International House, a unique program offered by International Programs that pairs 20 students from the U.S. with 20 international students in a residential setting.  International House residents participate in cultural exchange programs and provide international education opportunities for the JSU community.  In addition, International Programs connects students with study abroad opportunities that are sponsored by JSU faculty.

Another exciting development at JSU is the collaboration between International Programs and the Office of Residence Life creating a space for Multicultural Programs. At JSU we value diversity and are excited about this new space that will give all students an opportunity to mix and mingle or simply hang out.  For military connected students, Veteran Services can assist you with benefits associated with your education while at the same time providing you with a state of the art service center with study rooms, a lounge, wide screen television (with Netflix) and a pool table.  As you can tell I enjoy writing about all the good things we have for you and I hope you will immerse yourself in all we have to offer.  Enjoy your time at JSU, get involved, become engaged and stop by my office for a visit when you have time.

At JSU... You Matter!

The JSU Division of Student Affairs launched the You Matter campaign in Fall 2017 to convey its core principle that all students are deserving of respect and dignity as individuals.  Regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, age, status as an individual with a disability, protected veteran status, genetic information or political affiliation, students matter at JSU.  For students, the JSU Division of Student Affairs exists to assist you with personal needs, advocate for your voice, listen to your suggestions, and engage you through the higher education lifespan.

Students, you make a difference in our community and You Matter to us!
